We were invited to TOUS x GALA event, in the heart of New York. An special event to present the new TOUS collection designed by Gala Gonzalez.

b2ap3_thumbnail_gala-x-tous.jpg

We arrived to the place, The Gary’s Loft, the decoration was very sophisticated and each detail was under control. There were balloons with TOUS on it.

There were three areas; the first one were you could enjoy the best Catalan wines, cava and cocktails by Anna de Codorniu and Raimat.

The second area were we could observe the capsule collection Gala for Tous with the presence of the “it girl” and designer Gala Gonzalez and Rosa Tous, who were there. The collection composed by earrings, bracelets, necklace and rings has the perfect fusion between the nature and the materials as ruby, emerald or diamond. We were totally in love, so elegant with a modern touch.

The third area The photocall where you could take frame pictures and wear Tous elements as sunglasses, bears or bags. After you could pick your picture and keep with you to remember the event.

Also it was a fantastic catering, the food was spectacular made it by a Spanish restaurant too. Tous wanted to keep the Spanish essence with the food, drinks and the guests. Some celebrities, bloggers and fashion media assisted the event too.

We enjoyed the afternoon; we have such nice time. It was time to leave, we picked up the gift bag, it contained Rosa perfume by Tous, a bracelet and the catalog with Tous for Gala collection. It was a cute present and we really appreciate it!!

We did it! We celebrated The Touch of Spain Afterwork party and we going to explain all the details.

The first thing that we choose was the place, The Roger Smith hotel was perfect for the location for an after work party and we save the date, May 13th.

After a week promoting the event, the day finally arrived. We started to set up at 11 am, we had a lot of details to take care about, and we wanted that everything was as perfect as we designed.

b2ap3_thumbnail_IMG_2328.JPG

The Roger Smith Hotel Bar, the Lily’s, was empty, we had a lot of work to do. Gloria, Katharina and me created the Beiñ touch with all the Spanish designers: there were some clothing hanged in the ceiling, the information of the designers was in the table, there were two racks with the collections, the shoes and accessories were around the whole room and the pictures of the shooting to show the people all our work.

The featuring brands were: Guiem, Traka Barraka, Ecoology, Aiby Craft, Red and Rouge, Sueños de Lucia, Celia Valverde, Stigma NYC, Yaninna Luxury Shoes y Bhava Studio.

b2ap3_thumbnail_IMG_2320.JPGb2ap3_thumbnail_IMG_2321.JPG

Isa designed a cool video, that you can see here of the making of from the shooting, which was reproducing all time, the photo buzz with the Spanish complements to take pictures was in a corner, ready for the pictures. We create a little space where you could decorate and paint your own ecologic bag, a funny activity to complete the after work party.

Finally at 2pm finally we were done, a long morning decorating and working hard to make The Touch of Spain party perfect.

The press and VIP guests started to arrive at 3, we offered some cupcakes and sparkling wine, they look delicious. We were ready!

We explain everybody all the details about Beiñ, about the designers, about our future projects…

b2ap3_thumbnail_IMG_2327.JPG

Two of the designers, Francisca from Bhava Studio and Pedro Juan from Stigma NYC came to let people now more details about them and their brands. We were so glad about that and also took pictures and videos about the event.

b2ap3_thumbnail_IMG_2324.JPG

The happy hour that we offer was so good, sangria, beer and wine! At 5 pm we opened the doors for the public and it was a total success.

We received some visits like Paula Rey and her assistant, the photograph, and John and Oxana, two of our models with the outfits of the designers, he was wearing Guiem and her Sueños de Lucia. Also Gustavo from Idea Catalyst came to enjoy and Kelly Hoey with Celia Valverde outfit, she was incredible! Here some pics of the event

b2ap3_thumbnail_IMG_2308.JPGb2ap3_thumbnail_IMG_2323.JPGb2ap3_thumbnail_IMG_2311.JPGb2ap3_thumbnail_IMG_2310.JPGb2ap3_thumbnail_IMG_2313.JPG

After a long day selling, explaining and showing The Touch of Spain to everybody in New York, we could say that we did a good job. Thanks to the assistants to come and let us have a nice afternoon.

We will have more events coming soon, keep tune in!

SUNDAY

CHELSEA MARKET

After sleep and have a great Saturday it is time to enjoy another spring day!

Chelsea is the first stop. The Chelsea Market has some alternative designer stores where you can complete your spring outfit. There is really peculiar decoration, it has style and is one of our favorite places!

b2ap3_thumbnail_Chelsea_Market_entrance.jpg

THAI RESTAURANT

Have a lunch there too. Do you like Thai Food? There is a good restaurant where enjoy the typical plates. If you don’t like Asian food no worries, there is a extended offer of different restaurants: Mexican, American, Italian… You can choose.

We are in Chelsea; the Highline is the perfect place to go after your lunch. You can walk a little and you can feel the fresh air in your face, it is very rewarding. Enjoy the amazing views and relax a bit in the cool wood chairs.

ENJOY THE SPRING DAYS!

Posted by on in TRENDS

Where is the spring?

It is officially Spring. The temperature and the cloudy day don’t say the same. In New York everybody wants to wear fresh clothes and lay down in central park with a book in your hands. But the truth is that during those winter days people look for do plans in a different way.

We are going to recommend some plans during working days

Monday

To start the week the best you can do is go to the shop to the Farmer’s market at Union Square. The best places for buy fresh fruit and vegetables, an alternative choice instead the classic grocery store, even the day is not the best, you can breath some fresh air and get your fridge full with healthy food.

b2ap3_thumbnail_photo-new-york-city-farmers-market-union-square-cc.jpg

Tuesday

Do some running or Yoga in Central Park or Bryant Park. You can schedule in your calendar the next May 19th, where the new Bryant Park Yoga Season will return again. So meanwhile the good time arrives you can walk and see how the leaves turn to green or how the Spring is coming, a little bit slow but is on its way.

b2ap3_thumbnail_images.jpg

Wednesday

In the middle of the week, a good choice is to go with your friends to have dinner to Bagatelle, a French restaurant situated in the heart of Meatpacking. It is an amazing place; very light, sophisticated and elegant. You can feel the touch of spring in the food, the decoration. Really recommended place before you can do picnics in the parks.

b2ap3_thumbnail_pg68_1.jpg

Thursday

To look fabulous for the weekend you can go to do your manicure and pedicure. The nails need to be colored with a light and spring color for the sunny days. One of my favorite places is the Essie Nail Saloon also known as the Samuel Shriqui Salon. It is situated in the Upper East Side, so you can buy some clothes or just walk after the service. There you can relax and choose between the amazing Essie colors to be fashion this spring.

b2ap3_thumbnail_M-na1012nf-essie-salon-int.jpg

Friday

Friday is one of our favorite days of the week. Time to relax and get ready to receive the spring in the best Spa in the city, Aire Ancient Baths. Here you can relax your mind and your body, get a massage and prepare yourself for the Spring fashion clothing, the colors and the sun.

Williamsburg is one of the most modern and alternative neighbourhood in Brooklyn because a lot of artists moved here. It has really good communication with the subway and buses, so that makes it a perfect place for all the art lovers and people with their own style.

b2ap3_thumbnail_8.png

Bedford Avenue is one of the most important streets and we can see the lifestyle of Williamsburg; bicycles in the street, fresh flowers in the stores, graffiti everywhere or commercial stores are mixing here. The buildings look so similar to the Soho ones, old constructions, fire escapes in front of the street but still keeping the New Yorker style.

b2ap3_thumbnail_9.png

Walking around we find Soot and Tusk, a cute store for emergent and sustainable designers. They have a extend clothing and accessories collections for women and men and the store has a modern style with metallically pieces as furniture.

b2ap3_thumbnail_2.png

In the hangers of this place in the middle of Williamsburg there are Guiem and Ecoology, two ecologic and made in Spain Designers. One of the most important points for the fashion inspiration in New York is the East Village. If you walk around the streets You can see upcoming trends, like a catwalk with the next season clothes.

The limits of this zone are from Third street until Bowery street until the East part of the river, between 14th and Houston street. A place that emanates culture. On the one hand it is the house of some artistic movements like Punkrock and Nuyorican. Why Am I explaining that? Because on the other hand, absolutelly everything in that place has something special: stores, propale, streets... That spark let you know that place create and move trendies, ideas and inspiration. You can see it in the graffities in the street, in the stores decoration or in the Way How they serve coffee.

Stigma NYC by Pedro Juan is a new concept in women’s contemporary clothing that can easily translate from day to evening wear, appealing to the young woman of today.

b2ap3_thumbnail_pedro4.jpg

Our clothes will take you on a journey from the retro mod style of the 60's to the clean futuristic lines of today. I draw my inspiration from pop art, rock & roll, and NYC's striking architecture to create clothes that appeal to sophisticated women with cutting edge style.  Stigma NYC delivers versatile garments that are hand-crafted in New York City using superior quality fabrics that reflect the essence of active city life.

Pedro Juan, was born in Medellin Colombia based in NYC, has worked in the Fashion Industry at companies including Jill Stuart, Jones New York and Polo Ralph Lauren and today he is the founder and creative director of Stigma NYC.

Interview with Pedro Juan

b2ap3_thumbnail_pedro5.jpg

What profession would you take on if you weren’t a designer?

Fashion Stylist for magazines

What made you decide you wanted to be a designer?

I always like art and drawing. When I was seven I learn how draw figurines and I find out a way to incorporate art into the human body with a specific aesthetic and style.

What do you love most about fashion?

Self-expression in the design process

b2ap3_thumbnail_pedro2.jpg

Who is your style icon?

Twiggy and Jane Birkin

Whats the most inspiring place for you?

London during the late sixties

Do you have a specific research process when you start designing new pieces?

Yes first I chose a team or subject. Then I research fabrics and textures, draw the different silhouettes and start developing the patterns

b2ap3_thumbnail_pedro.jpg

What's on the radio when you're working?

Nothing I like silence while I work

What has been the highlight moment of your career so far?

I have different moments, one when I won the scholarship to come to study to United States, then when I graduated and when I showed the collection in Paris and open my own brand

b2ap3_thumbnail_pedro3.jpg

Manhattan is a mystery box. If you walk around the streets you can discover an incredible city that you ever have imagined.

The streets are crowded and there are a lot of tourists who come to celebrate Christmas. There are a lot of taxis going around the streets. The American ‘flags are in the front of the buildings, they fusion with the environment. There are Starbucks with long lines in each corner and the traffic lights seem that never are going to change into green to cross. Welcome to New York.

b2ap3_thumbnail_IMG_3261.JPG

Each neighborhood has a soul, the Garment District or more popular as Fashion District  is the heart of the fashion in New York and the United States. Here the clothes are designed and manufactured (a third part of clothes in the United States)

b2ap3_thumbnail_IMG_3282.JPG

The Garment District is the pure fashion: streets, stores or buildings. In this district are some of the most world famous and recognized designers. They have their stores open to the public like Óscar de la Renta, Donna Karan or Clavin Klein.

In this place everybody feed. Restaurants and hotels coexist giving style to the neighborhood. The Empire State Building, Macy’s(the most popular stores in the city) and one of the most famous public station, Penn Station. All them are in the Fashion District.

b2ap3_thumbnail_IMG_3278.JPG

b2ap3_thumbnail_IMG_3283.JPG

In these streets you can find Bene Rialto, one of our temporal point of sale. It is a beautiful store with three floors just in the borderline between the Fashion District and the Fifth Avenue (it is one of the main arteries in the center of Manhattan, which gather the most exclusive and luxury brands in the world).

All that makes that the store has a lot and good advantages; first of all the location is in a obligatory point of visit, for both visitors and locals who loves the fashion. New York is the house of talented and famous designers. It powers that more people with different styles be able to walk around, see and buy the clothes collections.

b2ap3_thumbnail_IMG_3262.JPG

b2ap3_thumbnail_IMG_3268.JPG

The accessibility to those garments and collections is higher because you may walk and see all those little charm stores. The mix of influences and styles between these two neighborhoods give a unique style to this part of Manhattan. Also, Bene Rialto has great variety of designers. It is so important to be in a good location, because the public can be in touch with the brands and it is easier for a new people discover our brands.

Those reasons are the reason why in Bene Rialto you can find emergent designers; most of them are ecologic and they just do capsule or limited collections. Among them there are two made in Spain brands: GUIËM, a menswear brand of simple, colorful and unique clothes and Red and Rouge, a handmade turbans and hats Brand. Bene Rialto has glass doors what allow seeing the clothes. They don’t need shop front because it gives the attention to fashion and style.

b2ap3_thumbnail_F5.JPG

b2ap3_thumbnail_15246497034_8ea996c98a_k.jpg

And as Yves Sant Laurent said, “Fashions fade, style is eternal”. So, we hope that the made in Spain style conquers the new Yorkers because now it is part of New York. And you can find it in the Fashion District!

It is Saturday morning; I wake up and need to go to Manhattan. I arrive to Penn Station; it is in Midtown between 34th and 7 avenue. I start  walking  around with the people. Everybody has a different style and a concept about what is fashion. There is a mix between  tourists,  locals and people like me.. that we aren’t from here but that we live here. Everything converges perfectly in New York.

b2ap3_thumbnail_Foto-13-12-14-13-52-51.jpg

I’m in the 26th street and there is a building with big windows. Also it has some colorful and nice advertisings. It is the FIT(Fashion Institue of Tecnology). The FIT is a center of fashion, a college, a museum and a place to celebrate events. I can’t resist to get in, there are Christmas decorations around, everything is beautiful. In the hall there is a Christmas pop up store, where designers that studied there can show their creations.

I walk inside, there are two exhibitions; the first one Faking It: Originals, Copies, and Counterfeits and Dance and Fashion. I get inside and I can see amazing and important pieces of fashion as Valentino, Chanel or Oscar de la Renta, next to them I can see the fake piece.

b2ap3_thumbnail_Captura-de-pantalla-2014-12-20-a-las-19.03.11.pngb2ap3_thumbnail_Captura-de-pantalla-2014-12-20-a-las-19.03.01.png

After that there are accessories and bags and screens where see how to detect a fake one. It is incredible the quantity of details that you can learn. At the end of the exhibition are brands as Homies, a funny way base don Hermes inspiration.

b2ap3_thumbnail_Captura-de-pantalla-2014-12-20-a-las-19.03.33.pngb2ap3_thumbnail_Captura-de-pantalla-2014-12-20-a-las-19.03.22.png

Sometimes you should get inside the FIT, it doesn’t matter if is just five minutes. You can learn and see how the culture and the fashion are in the air.

Guiëm, the menswear brand that launched its first Spring-Summer 2014 collection last March, now presents its new collection for this Fall-Winter 2014-15, in which nature and the desire to escape from monotony take center stage.

b2ap3_thumbnail_F1000011.JPG

Warm and comfortable fabrics, combined with soft and flattering patterns and geometric and colorful prints, results in versatile, unique and easy to wear garments, that help us into a parallel universe, far from noise, chasing the winter sun rays that slip between the branches of the trees.

The fabrics used in this new collection are mostly cotton, also betting on organic and recycled materials in some of the clothes. The production is carried out entirely in Spain, in small runs and taking care of every detail to get clothes that will last in time.

The color is again a fundamental value in the collection: red, blue or yellow, on gray, black and white bases, create a color balance combined with exclusive prints created for this season.

BHAVA is a women's fashion shoe brand founded by designers Francisca Pineda and Rushali A. Sanghani.  The duo first met in 2006 while collaborating on runway accessories for Cynthia Rowley in Hong Kong.  Bhava is named after the designers' shared devotion to purity and consideration for others, the highest form of Bhava.

Francisca has come to Spain to visit some retailers with Beiñ. In these days Francisca has known how fashion industry works here and she wants to come back very soon. Now we are going to talk a little bit with  her about fashion industry, spanish fashion and much more.

Why did you decide to manufacture in Spain?

In NY I am a member of a small SHOEMAKING group with many industry professionals.  Several of the members had mentioned the high quality of the Spanish footwear industry, and their positive experience.  I started asking around my contacts and was able to be introduced to several factories which I will be starting to produce with this Fall for  a high quality black label range in the Bhava assortment.

What are your favorite textiles to manufacture?

Bhava is a brand that puts ethical sourcing of local, artisan, and eco-conscious materials at the fore front.  For our next collection we are very excited to introduce new textures and hand painted details that the market has not yet seen in footwear.  We are always looking to break through boundaries of "traditional" footwear materials and introduce artisan products like hand-painted exotic embossed cork, or inlays of fine locally sourced metal mesh.  Every collection introduces a new idea, and is inspired but thinking outside the box for new materials from limited edition exclusive sources that have not yet been imported into the US.  We've also collaborated with artisans on limited edition runs of hand woven fabric that have been very well received by customers and retailers.

"There is a wonderful sense of play and fantasy in the work or the Spanish emerging designers."

What do you think about Spanish fashion? And the spanish emerging designers?

The word that kept running through my head when I was in Madrid during fashion week and seeing the designs from the emerging designers was a subtle underlying feeling of "surrealism".  It's not easy to describe , but there is a wonderful sense of play and fantasy in the work or the Spanish emerging designers.   Combined with an attention to detail, knowledge of high quality fabric treatments and flawless presentation,  I am very inspired by these designers and strength of the maker movement that I saw specifically in Barcelona.  Several of the apparel and accessory shops had open studios where you can see the product being made right in front of your eyes.  Authenticity, attention to detail, and effortless creativity are what you can expect from Spain's emerging designers.

Which steps do you think that designers must to follow to get into US market?

Before entering any market it is important to evaluate wether your product is right for each specific state and city in the the US, for example, California is very different from NY.  Once you have established what city your product works best in, it is important to research the small boutiques in those cities and contact those whose aesthetic and price point are the best fit.  Instagram, is very important here as well, and following the accounts of the local based retailers will give you a good idea of who their customer is and what are their most featured products are.  Having a line sheet priced landed, in US dollars will make it easier for boutiques to see if your product will fit in their assortment.  Most important is to put yourself in the boutique owner's feet and imagine how best to communicate the differentiating factors that your product brings to market that no one else can compete with.  Fashion is about what is new, you should be excited about presenting your collection and clear on why you think you can add value to their store.

"The US is one of the largest consumer economies, and in a luxury price point demands the high quality and attention to detail that can be found in Spain."

What do you think the US market offers to fashion designers?

I see two things happening in the fashion industry right now.  Opportunities for niche designs are opening up as e-commerce has increased the variety of choice that is available.  In some ways, niche shopping is creating mini-communities supporting indie designers, these seem small, but because of the increased international visibility of all designers all around the world there is an increased audience. Some things are getting very small and specific , while others are growing and increasing.  The US is one of the largest consumer economies, and in a luxury price point demands the high quality and attention to detail that can be found in Spain, because of this there is a demand for European made quality not just in the US but increasingly in Asia and other parts of the world that are looking to differentiate their assortment with authenticity and the centuries of craftsmanship that can be seen in countries like Spain.

What do you think about Beiñ team & work?

I have known the Beiñ team for a few years now as we have collaborated on events and now through my work in Spain.  Gloria and her team have always impressed me with their  professionalism, positive attitude, and attention to detail.  From an event flyer to organizing meetings, every detail and logistic is carefully planned to ensure success.  I highly recommend Beiñ for their experience, hard work, and the genuine passion that they put into every project.
